Mercy Legacy Society
Moved by the needs of people suffering from poverty, hunger
and lack of shelter, Sisters of Mercy Foundation Catherine McAuley used her inheritance to build a
house for religious, educational and social services for
women and children of Dublin, Ireland. She founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1831, and inspired
many to join her ministry to help the sick, the poor and the uneducated. Today, the Sisters of
Mercy continue Catherine's legacy around the world, focusing on health care, education, housing
and care for the poor and elderly.
Mercy Foundation recognizes donors who include the Foundation in a will, trust, designation, or
other gift plan at certain levels with membership in the Mercy Legacy Society. Members are
invited to exclusive events, seminars, tours and more. Members also are honored at the annual
McAuley and Legacy Societies Celebration where they receive a beautiful Irish teapot that
symbolizes Catherine McAuley's renowned hospitality.
